Grove stay unbeaten with win over title holders

-

Grove Menzieshill head into the winter break unbeaten after powering to an impressive home win over title holders Edinburgh University.

Elsewhere, MJV Wanderers rediscovered their early-season form to put five unanswered goals past hosts Watsonians.

Sarah Jamieson popped in the opener for Grove with a neat little flick and by half-time the university side were trailing 2-0 after Jude McMullan drilled in a rebound.

The Taysiders added a third through Susan Hamilton before Amy Brodie’s snapshot provided a solitary consolation.

Wanderers also hit the front early through youth internationalists Charlotte Watson and Emily Dark before Vikki Bunce chipped in the first of her brace before the break.

Becky Ward’s set-piece put the issue beyond doubt leaving Bunce to wrap up a solid team performance at 5-0 and cement their place in the top four.

Two narrow losses dropped St Andrews down to sixth place in division 2, but Dundee kept the student flag flying with Katie Sinclair (2), Jessica Smyth and Megan Donaldson registering in Championship A.

Despite a Vicky Carver double, Kinross suffered a frustrating 3-2 loss to Edinburgh University III while Grove A were overrun by a strong MCCW2 outfit.

Midland title hopefuls Madras maintained their challenge as Jade Milne, Rosa Guild and Marianne Dombrower downed Blairgowrie.

A last-minute strike made it 3-2 for Perthshire II with Wendy Marshall and Hannah Marchant replying for Kinross II.

Kylie Shields, Nic Tisdall and Dawn Ramsay made sure of the points for Monarchs over Dundee University IV.
