Amazon plans Dundee centre
Delivery depot will operate 24/7
Online retail giant Amazon is recruiting for a new delivery centre in Dundee.
The depot run by Amazon Logistics will use independent couriers to deliver parcels in and around Dundee seven days a week.
The company is already recruiting for a number of roles within the centre but has been unable to specify exactly how many new jobs will be created.
It is understood the delivery centre will operate round the clock.
Jamie Stephenson, UK director for Amazon Logistics, said: “Amazon Logistics adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network, enabling us to meet the delivery needs of customers.”
“Amazon Logistics is also helping independent local delivery companies to grow their businesses by providing state of the art technology to deliver Amazon orders.”
Positions being advertised include a delivery station manager, shifts manager and an operations manager.
The advert for a shifts manager states: “If you have a quality focused, customer obsessed industry background which carries with it experience of working in a fast paced environment (such as manufacturing, the military or engineering for example) we’d love to hear from you.”
The advert for delivery station manager says candidates will be “managing an environment concerning the delivery of Amazon orders direct to our customers, subject to ever rising volume and complexity, operating on a 24/7 basis”.
The operations manager will be expected to work four 10-hour shifts a week, including one day of the weekend.
Amazon is opening a number of new logistics centres around the country.
Amazon Logistics was launched in 2012 and uses couriers rather than the Royal Mail to deliver parcels.
Earlier this year Amazon announced plans to employ 2,500 new permanent staff in the UK. The increase will bring its total UK workforce to 14,000.
The company employs 40,000 people in Europe and last year created 10,000 jobs.
Since 2010 the company has invested £11.5 billion on European infrastructure and operations, with £4.6bn in the UK.
Amazon was formed in 1994 and has its headquarters in Seattle.
Although it began as an online bookstore, it has diversified to sell a huge range of products, from electrical goods to jewellery and clothes.
