French-owned Fife business is throwing its weight around
Production: MP hears of company’s success and concern about legislation
A Dunfermline firm is enjoying weighty success – and is now looking to expand.
French-owned Precia-Molen has enjoyed growth in turnover and staff numbers since it took over Shering Weighing in 2014.
It is now seeking to expand its manufacturing capacity at Pitreavie Business Park.
The firm, which has plants across the world, designs and produces weighing equipment for various industry sectors.
Dunfermline is its base for producing weighbridges and traffic management systems for the aggregate, waste management and agribulk industry.
Since the takeover the Dunfermline operation has increased its turnover by 40% and its workforce has risen to 60.
It is now negotiating to take over adjacent land to expand into the manufacture of concrete weighbridges.
If all goes to plan the facility should be ready for production next year.
Managing director John Swinburne recently welcomed Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman to the plant.
He took the opportunity to outline concerns about possible legislation changes over the control of weights used for calibration which he believed would be detrimental to the industry.
Mr Chapman said: “Precia-Molen’s plant in Dunfermline has become a strong and successful business.
“I was keen to understand concerns in relation to the absence of mandatory periodic verification of weights and measures in the UK.
“I have committed to taking steps to raise awareness of the potential adverse impact that this may be having on both consumers and businesses.”
