College launches new scheme

-

Perth College has revealed details of a new apprenticeship scheme.

An information evening outlining the benefits of the new initiative will be held for parents and pupils next week.

The Foundation Apprenticeship programme is a partnership between the college and local schools and aims to help children get a head start in their career once they leave school.

Designed to change the way young people learn, these apprenticeships last for two years and are taken alongside other school subjects like National 5s or Highers in the pupil’s fifth and sixth year.

It is an industry-recognised qualification set at SCQF level 6 – the same level as Highers.

A college spokeswoman said: “Foundation Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to broaden their options and get a taste of their potential career before they’ve left school.”

Participants will be able to get accelerated entry to a follow-up modern apprenticeship scheme as well as take part in a work experience.

In the next academic year Foundation Apprenticeships across Perth and Kinross will be available in the civil engineering, engineering, social services and ICT/digital (software) sectors.

The information evening will be held at the college’s Brahan Building on Wednesday April 27, from 4 to 8pm. For details call 01738 877000.
