The country’s cultural issues to be debated at AK Bell Library
An event this weekend is expected to spark debate on Scotland’s cultural life.
Award-winning human rights campaigner Amal Azzudin will join writer Richard Holloway, political and cultural commentator Pat Kane and broadcaster Ruth Wishart to tackle some of the biggest issues in the country.
Topics to be covered during the debate range from the refugee crisis to Scotland’s post-referendum cultural and political landscape and the event will include presentations from all four individuals before being opened up for further debate and discussion.
Entitled Imagining Scotland, the event is being hosted by the Saltire Society at the AK Bell Library on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the event, Saltire Society executive director Jim Tough said: “As part of our 80th anniversary celebrations, we’re really privileged to have such an eclectic and distinguished line-up of contributors to this Imagining Scotland event. The AK Bell Library is a suitably iconic location to be hosting it.
“I hope many will take the opportunity to attend, to be both challenged and inspired by the contributions from our four speakers and then to contribute their own thoughts to what promises to be a wide-ranging and stimulating debate.”
Amal Azzudin is one of a group of seven schoolgirls from Drumchapel High School who campaigned to stand up against dawn raids, detention and deportation of asylum seekers in Glasgow.
Doors open at 11.30am on Saturday and tickets are available via the Saltire Society website – www.saltiresociety. org.uk – priced £10 for nonmembers and £5 for members.
