Police in Dundee recovered the body of missing man Taylor Frazer from the River Tay at Riverside on Tuesday night.

A spokeswoman for the force said the 27-year-old’s family had been notified but there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Mr Frazer had last been seen in the early hours of Sunday at Tesco Riverside supermarket.

His disappearance sparked a major search in Dundee.

Forensic teams examined a room in the Malmaison Hotel where Mr Frazer had been staying and a specialist search team was drafted in to help scour the Riverside area for him.

But Police Scotland received a call from a member of the public on Tuesday evening saying they had seen a body in the water near the Bridgeview Station.

Riverside Drive was closed to traffic while Mr Frazer’s body was recovered.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report from a member of the public that there was a body in the water.

“We carried out an operation at 8pm alongside the coastguard and ambulance services and a body was recovered.”

Formal identification of Mr Frazer’s body took place yesterday.

The spokesman added: “There are no suspicious circumstances and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

“The public are thanked for their assistance during the missing person search.”

It is understood Mr Frazer had recently returned to live in Dundee.

Mr Frazer’s friend Steven McGowan paid tribute to him on Facebook.

He said: “I knew him personally a few years ago.

“He is a nice guy, a little shy perhaps back when I knew him well.

“He had a close group of friends then, including myself, who are good people.”
