Has man gone into hiding after rumoured win?

Angus: People believe he is £10 million richer

- STEWART ALEXANDER

Forfar remains at the centre of fevered lottery speculation over suggestions a local man is £10 million richer.

National media descended on the Angus town in a bid to firm up weekend rumours that a well-known local man was the winner of Saturday’s £10,317,199 Lotto jackpot.

Camelot has said that a valid claim has been lodged for the huge prize but the lottery firm is unable to confirm or deny if the winner is from the Angus area.

But they did say earlier this week that there were no big prizewinners in the area who had agreed to publicity, and speculation that the local man has landed the huge prize has been given credence by him having not been seen at his home near the centre of the town since the weekend.

It is understood the man is employed by a town firm and has not been at work since Monday, with suggestions that he handed in his notice in the wake of the windfall.

The Courier understands he has family in the south of England and may have gone there to escape the media attention.

It has been suggested he was in a celebratory mood after Saturday night’s draw but may not have actually been aware of the massive scale of the jackpot and the fact that there was only a single winning ticket.

“Everyone knows the name that is going around the town and I heard he was out on Sunday night but even at that time thought it may have been tens of thousands of pounds that he won, not 10 million,” said one local.

“Good luck to him, it’s a massive amount of money and I hope the rumours are right and he can enjoy it to the full.”
