More disruption for M90 motorists with roadworks to begin
TRaffic: Latest phase of work to resurface motorway between J4 and J5 to begin on Tuesday
Almost 30,000 daily commuters are braced for months of disruption from a £1.4 million roadworks programme on the M90.
Work will begin on the Perth to Inverkeithing motorway on Tuesday as part of a phased resurfacing over the next two months.
The first phase will take place on the northbound carriageway between junction four (Kelty) and junction five (Crook of Devon) and is scheduled to last for two weeks.
Remaining phases are down for May and June start dates.
The works will repair a total length of 3.8km of the carriageway which has deteriorated, as well as replacing some of the joints in the surface.
Almost 30,000 vehicles a day use the busy section of road.
A contraflow system will operate and the junction five northbound off-slip road will be closed during the first phase.
Diversions will be in place to ensure traffic flows.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north-east representative, said: “We’re carrying out the works during the spring when weather conditions are generally more favourable, allowing us to complete the resurfacing as quickly and safely as possible ahead of the peak summer period.
“The programme of works will ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.
“We would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and visit the Traffic Scotland website for travel information before setting out.”
Starting around 7.30am on Tuesday, the works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.
The project is the latest of eight schemes on the M90 in the past two years.
The last works took Glenfarg in February.
