No let-up by Naysmith

League 2 champions East Fife head to Berwick Rangers and player/ manager Gary Naysmith is determined that his men continue to play in the manner that has brought them success.

A goalless draw at Clyde last weekend ensured that the Fifers would not be caught. However, no one is being allowed to think about their summer holidays or life in League 1 next season just yet.

Naysmith said: “We enjoyed last weekend but we were back in working hard at training this week. Some people may think that our season is over, but we don’t.”

Naysmith also has good reason to field his strongest side, as he explained: “We have three players – Jonathan Page, Scott Mercer and Kyle Wilkie – who have played in every game so far and do not want that record to end.

“Nathan Austin is just two goals ahead of Craig Gunn and he wants to finish the season as the league’s top goalscorer so he will be involved as well.”

The Fifers will need a strong performance to defeat a resurgent Borders outfit, with Naysmith adding: “We are facing a team that is bang in form. From our last six games we have picked up 14 points and in their last six Berwick have secured 13. We have had four shut-outs in our last five games and they have had seven shut-outs in nine.”

Naysmith has a fully fit and suspension-free squad to choose from as his side looks for their ninth away success of the season.

The Borderers will be forced to make a change to their lineup, with on-loan Hibs youngster Callum Crane suspended following his dismissal during the 2-1 win at Arbroath last weekend.
