NEW GILSTON and WOODSIDE. Members and guests enjoyed their summer outing to Verdant Works, Dundee, followed by a drive to Pitlochry and House of Bruar and tea at Fisher’s Hotel.
CARNBEE. Members enjoyed a trip to Pitlochry Festival Theatre to see Carousel and high tea at Bankfoot Visitor Centre. Fife Provost Jim Leishman gave a talk on his life, from being a professional footballer to being provost. Competitions: three macaroon bars – 1 Betty Wishart, 2 Margaret Laing, 3 Sheena Wilson; flower of the month – Betty Wishart.
KENNOWAY. President Morag Gibson welcomed members and podiatrist Bill Cameron gave a talk on events in his life. CAMERON. Anne Brown presided and Carla Cobb entertained with a floral art demonstration. Competitions: Flower of the month – 1 Margaret Kirkcaldy, 2 Ann Morrison; floral arrangement in an item of footwear – 1= Margaret Kirkcaldy and Joy Straith, 3 Ann Morrison, 4 Carole Cameron.
WESTMUIR. Members hosted a catered luncheon in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday. The group joined Airlie WRI for a summer outing to Dundee University Botanic Gardens. Trophy winners: Mrs Soutar Cup – 1 Evelyn Thomson, 2 Iris Forrest, 3 Isobel Keillor; Eila Webster Bowl – Margaret McLagan; Housewives Salver – Evelyn Thomson; Handcrafts Salver – 1= Margaret McLagan and Evelyn Thomson; Federation Show Salver – Margaret McIldowie.
COLLISTON. Members enjoyed an outing to Gourdon, touring the Maggie Law Maritime Museum, with supper at the Quayside restaurant.
CORTACHY. Members enjoyed a garden party to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday. Afternoon tea was enjoyed in the marquee and when all had finished we were entertained by accordionist Joyce Ramsay with music, singing and tall tales.
ARBIRLOT. Mrs Laura McKenzie presided and welcomed members to the 97th birthday celebration. She then named the office bearers for the 2016-17 session of the amalgamated Arbirlot & Carmyllie SWI which will be held in the premises of Voluntary Action Angus in Arbroath. Gift tokens were presented to competition winner Audrey Brown and garden flower winner Jean Tyrie.
