COUPAR ANGUS Coupar Angus and District Heritage Associatio­n is running a charity shop on George Street from Monday August 29 to Saturday September 3, 9.30am to 4pm. They will be at the shop on Sunday setting up and would welcome any donations handed in between 10am to 3pm. For uplifts phone 01828 628886.

STANLEY Redgorton and Stanley church fete will be held in and around Stanley village hall from 2pm on Saturday, opened by the Rev Adrian Lough. Various collectabl­es will be included in a silent auction.

GASK An open afternoon will be held in Gask Church on Saturday from 2-4pm with music, flowers and teas. The following day, at 7pm in the church, there will be a Songs of Praise.

After the service there will be refreshmen­ts in the hall and a retiring collection in aid of guild projects.

PITLOCHRY The Walking Theatre Co return to Pitlochry on Sunday at 2pm with their interactiv­e, familyfrie­ndly show Merlin & The King. Join Merlin, magician at the royal court of King Arthur, on a quest to discover who stole the royal sword.

The magical, medieval adventure will take place in the Explorers garden adjacent to Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

Family tickets are available.

BIRNAM A Portrait of Opera, which will include some of opera’s most loved moments, will be performed by rising stars, local soprano Colleen Nicoll and Ayrshire tenor David Douglas, accompanie­d by pianist Andrew Johnston, at the Birnam Arts Centre on Friday at 8pm.

In October at the same venue they will offer an opera course.
