Corbyn on the wrong track with criticism
If one man could really have done with an error-free couple of weeks, bereft of blunders, it was surely Jeremy Corbyn.
His embattled leadership at risk, the Labour leader decided to make a point. And it could have been quite a popular point. People care about trains. They care about the fares they are paying and they care about overcrowding.
Corbyn decided those would be good points to illustrate. So far, so uncontroversial.
Sadly he decided to make his point by sitting on the floor of a “ram-packed” train that turned out not to be “ram-packed”.
In fact, video evidence appears to show Corbyn could have had a seat if he so desired.
Even when trying to do right, it seems he just can’t help but do wrong.
Despite huge grassroots support, Corbyn has struggled to assemble a shadow cabinet.
He has become embroiled in too many petty arguments – failing to sing the national anthem at the Battle of Britain memorial service and the lengthy will he, won’t he row over his wearing of a red poppy spring immediately to mind.
It is beginning to look like these bizarre blunders will prove to be a terminal problem for his leadership of the Labour Party.
Voted in with what looked like an unassailable mandate, Corbyn may now be incapable of seeing off his critics.
