Matthew Henvey’s late goal salvaged a point for Dundee in their opening Development League fixture with Aberdeen.

The Dons, who featured Neil Alexander and former Dundee United defender Callum Morris, were dominant in the opening exchanges and led 2-0 early in the second half but Dundee reduced the deficit halfway through the second period with Mark Smith’s header.

In the dying minutes of the game, Henvey headed the ball past Alexander to rescue a point.

The Dons took the lead with half-an-hour played when Bruce Anderson drilled a low shot past David Mitchell in the Dundee goal.

Anderson doubled his tally on 48 minutes, controlling a low cross from Scott Wright to fire home.

Kyle Clark replaced Taylor Berry on the hour mark and five minutes later he found Sam Dryden whose cross was headed in by Mark Smith.

Henvey was sent on and, as the game entered injury-time, he headed in a deflected cross.

Dundee: Mitchell, Dryden, Waddell, Smyth, Quigley, Berry (Clark 60), Colquhoun, Low, Coupe, Trialist, Smith (Henvey 88) Subs not used: Ferrie, Gibb.
