Society unveils musical treats

-

The Strathearn Music Society has launched its 51st concert season.

Brochures listing all six concerts and with full details of the programmes will be available at Strathearn Community Library, Comrie Library, Crieff Tourist Office and Carnelian Crafts.

The first concert of the season, on Wednesday October 19, is a flute and piano recital with Katherine Bryan, an award-winning young flautist with an international reputation, and pianist Scott Mitchell.

Scott is a tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Napier University. Their programme includes some key works from the flute repertoire, including solo work by Debussy and the virtuoso Tango Jalousie Fantasia by Gade.

Celebrating to the very day of its first performance in Crieff 50 years ago, The Scottish Ensemble, Scotland’s premier chamber group, will be performing a special anniversary concert on Saturday November 12.

The programme is a celebration of the string repertoire, from Vivaldi’s seasonal concerto to the delicate, atmospheric intimacy of two quartets by the society’s patron, Sir James Macmillan.

The final concert of 2016 will be A Concert for Yuletide from early music group, The Musicke Companye and will take place in the afternoon of Sunday December 11.

Subscription tickets for the season are available.
