A police investigation is under way after a woman was stabbed to death in Dundee.

The horror unfolded in Ballantrae Terrace, Douglas, with several children understood to have witnessed the victim bleeding out in the street.

Family members last night took to social media to pay tributes to the woman, named locally as Marie Low, as crime scene officers began their investigation.

Police Scotland refused to comment, however it is understood a woman has been detained in connection with the incident.

Between 15 and 20 police vehicles descended on the area around 3pm with locals reporting hearing screams coming from the street.

Eyewitnesses said several children saw the horrific incident unfold and claimed one of Ms Low’s children may have been among them.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “She was covered in blood from her stomach right down to her feet.

“Her whole body was covered and she was just screaming and screaming.

“There were lots of kids out there in the street – they shouldn’t have to see that.”

Paramedics arrived and attempted to rush Ms Low, who was in her thirties, into an ambulance to take her to Ninewells Hospital.

However, it is understood she died prior to arrival.

“She had been stabbed and the paramedics were trying to help her then started shouting because they needed to get her out of there,” one witness said.

The street has terraced houses on one side and flats on the other.

A large area taking in both sides of the street was sealed off while investigations continued into this morning.

Crime scene officers remained at the scene with several uniformed officers stationed at either end of the terrace.

An elderly woman who lives on the corner of the street said the stabbing marked the third killing in the same residential area in recent years.

She said: “I heard something so I came out to see what was going on and saw all the police in the street.

“It never used to be like this around here at all.”
