Demonstration of skills needed to maintain historic buildings
The traditional building skills required to maintain historic buildings will be on display in the centre of Perth today and tomorrow.
The Fife and Tayside Traditional Buildings Forum has organised the event to raise awareness of Scotland’s traditional buildings and the specialist skills needed to keep them in good repair.
There will be demonstrations of stonemasonry, specialist joinery, roof slating and painting and decorating.
The event, in King Edward Street, will take place from 10am to 4pm on both days and will give members of the public an opportunity to see traditional building skills demonstrated by local apprentices and have an opportunity to ask the experts about any specific buildingrelated matters.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the need to address the condition of Scotland’s traditional buildings and opportunities locally for owners to get help to do this.
The event is free of charge and owners who are concerned about the condition of their building are invited to come along and benefit from the wide ranging guidance on offer.
There will be an information and materials tent where representatives from Historic Environment Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council planning department, and Skills Development Scotland will be on hand to answer queries.
Secondary school pupils, who are beginning to think about their career choices, will also be getting an opportunity to try their hands at the skills on offer and see if this might be a career option for them.
