Invitation to form ‘clan’ as part of UK City of Culture bid celebration
Residents in Perth have the unique opportunity to form a ‘clan’ as part of the UK City of Culture 2021 bid.
A community cultural celebration is being held on November 20 and Perth and Kinross Council is looking for volunteers to join the activities.
A council spokesperson said: “We are looking for people to form a clan and take part in the event by showcasing a short performance piece. Clans can be based on a place, a community or a type of cultural activity – for example a dance clan, a young person’s clan or a poetry clan.
“On the day, the clans will gather and carry out their individual activity in sites across Perth, between noon and 5pm. Locations can be stages, stalls, marquees or indoor spaces.
“The groups will then all convene on Tay Street at 5pm for the grand finale.”
Each clan needs a designated leader and they will also be asked to design a flag or lantern to be used as part of the opening event.
The leader will be required to take part in the official opening which will be led by Perth and Kinross Provost Liz Grant.
Provost Grant said: “Winning the title of UK City of Culture 2021 will bring Perth recognition and economic benefits.
“However, just as important is the chance to showcase our fantastic community cultural activities.
“There is so much talent across Perth and Kinross. I can’t wait to see everyone come together on November 20.”
Participants will have to commit to rehearsals for the grand finale. The bid team can offer help with finding venues and give other support if required.
