Title challengers Grove and Grange clash at DISC

-

There is little current form to go on in division 1 of the National League with only one match played and a break for the Youth Inter Districts last weekend, writes our men’s hockey corresponent.

Grove Menzieshill made a good start with victory over Western Wildcats, while Grange top the table with the highest score on that first outing, a 7-2 win against Gordonians.

With Menzieshill and Grange likely to be the main challengers to Kelburne – although Edinburgh University might have a say in the matter – tomorrow’s match at DISC should be something special.

With 11 teams in division 2, it is the turn of Dundee Wanderers to have the weekend off.

Early leaders Granite City Wanderers should enhance their place at the top as it appears that Dundee University may take some time to settle with a changed team from last season.

The most likely other contenders for the top places are Inverleith and St Andrews University, who clash in Edinburgh tomorrow.

Harris suffered a second defeat last week but showed signs of coming to terms with the several enforced changes and they are on their travels to face Stepps.

Division 3 has got off to a somewhat slow start mainly due to the number of university teams in the league.

Monarchs, who seem to have stepped up their level from last season, face the Aberdeen students tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Grove Menzieshill II have made a good start in central division 2 and are on their travels tomorrow to Rottenrow II.

In the Midland League Division 1 Wanderers II face a tough away match against St Andrews University II.
