Around the river beats

-

More fish from the lower River Tay in Perthshire were scattered throughout the beats last week as the summer run seems to have come to an end.

The beats at Stanley and below had steady sport, with small runs entering the river, and earlier-run fish have dropped back towards their final destinations of Almond, Shochie and Ordie.

Beats just above the tide produced on a regular basis with Almondmouth, Waulkmill and Lower Redgorton catching 41 between them.

Waulkmill saw Neville Johnson’s party have success, while Dr Colin Jones landed three fish up to 18lb on the fly on Lower Redgorton.

Upper Redgorton and Fishponds had five.

Upper Scone rods had an enjoyable week with Roddy McKay catching up to 23lb off both Benchil and Pitlochrie.

Meanwhile Islamouth had a good week with 18. Neil Tong’s party had success later in the week with three fish landed up to 20lb.

Meikleour and Upper Islamouth had six, with fish landed up to 18lb, including a 14lb one for Robert Dale.

The middle river has slowed over recent weeks. Kercock had four fish, which included a 15lb beauty for Matt Blake.

The upper river was seeing sport, and recent fresh water has improved activities with fish recorded on Edradynate and Farleyer beats.

The Tummel is continuing to see limited sport from the Portna-Craig beat administered by Pitlochry Angling Club.

There are now more than 6,300 fish through the dam, resulting in them being recorded in Loch Faskally, and fish are running the Garry.
