Make room for a little colour

It’s a case of the brighter, the better when looking for textiles to lift your child’s bedroom for the new season

-

Autumn is the best time to think about bringing more colour into your home, as the darker days mean we spend more time indoors. Simple additions such as a new carpet or rug or even some crisp, new bedclothes can really lift a room for the new season.

Colourful textiles are a great way to update a room and you can make a huge impact by bringing brights into children’s bedrooms.

Pale blues, pinks and yellows may be calming colours for a newborn but older children are more likely to enjoy a room that offers colourful stimulation and fun.

Bedcovers come in every design under the sun – stay away from the run-of-themill cartoon and TV show ranges, and opt for something quirky that will add a cool vibe to your little one’s room, and won’t age as quickly.

Look out for cute space-themed bed sets or groovy dinosaur or mermaid covers, which will help your child drift off into dreams of adventure, or go for colour pops that will bridge the gap from toddler to teenage years.

Carpets and rugs are another route to bringing colour and fun into a child’s room. Opt for bold stripes or spots on a carpet that will make the perfect play space or go for cute accent rugs shaped as clouds, rainbows or animals and let the children’s imaginations do the rest. For a more structured playzone, a more traditional rug with roads, a space scene or map will provide the foundation for hours of play with cars, rockets and figures.

Other accessories – such as lampshades, vibrant cushions, colourful fabric toy storage and even cool wall stickers – can really lift your child’s space to another level and will make them they envy of their friends when playdates come around.
