Story line keeps you guessing

For 80 years, The Broons cartoon strip has been a mainstay of The Sunday Post.

It was left to writer Rob Drummond to take the family to the next level, making the characters come to life on stage.

The casting was vital as everyone has preconceived ideas of the family’s individual characteristics. I thought there were well-nigh perfect interpretations of each part, although Joyce Falconer’s Maw had a rougher edge that I would have preferred. There were no cameos in this performance. It was a team performance from start to finish – and what a performance it was.

In Thursday night’s Perth Concert Hall performance, the dialogue was fresh, fast-flowing and the musical items were delivered with vitality and gusto.

The ensemble’s versatility was clear in quick changes of costume and character, with scene switches absolutely seamless.

The story swivelled on an old Broons’ story line, Maggie’s wedding.

It was a “will she or won’t she” moment, but I’d rather not spill the beans. Far better for you to find out what happened yourselves.
