Injury-hit Dundee High fail to trouble Marr

Injury-hit DUNDEE HIGH

RUGBY never troubled high-flying Marr at Mayfield.

The Troon men rattled in seven tries to come out 47-14 winners.

Dundee grabbed a try in each half from full-back Fraser McKay and wing Kaleem Barreto, with McKay and Phil Godman landing a conversion apiece.

Although they are fifth in BT National 1, they are six points adrift of Edinburgh Accies in fourth and could find themselves with too much to do if they want to mount a promotion challenge.

The Duffus Park faithful must have thought the tide had turned for HOWE OF FIFE as they went into the second half against Musselburgh 24-7 up.

But, as happened at Philiphaugh the week before, their second-half performance let them down.

After the break, all they could add was a Cameron Ellison penalty to the first-half tries from Duncan McIntyre, who nabbed two and Angus Guthrie, all of which Ellison had converted as well as slotting a penalty.

The Stoneyhill crew hit back with 22 points and confined Howe to a frustrating losing bonus.

Howe sit only one point above a similarly winless Stewarts Melville, who prop up the table.

The youngsters who have come into the Howe side are learning the hard way that a game lasts for what can at times seem an interminable 80-plus minutes.

It was a closer-run thing at Dumbreck than Cartha Queens Park probably expected as

KIRKCALDY took a losing bonus from their BT National 2 clash.

Jack Pow with two tries and Ruraidh Bonnar with one, and the 15 points from the boot of Finlay Smith, saw them come away with a creditable 36-30 scoreline.

The Beveridge Park outfit are third bottom on 10 points, but comfortably ahead of Ardrossan and only two points behind Preston Lodge in eighth.

Thoughts of a first win of the season must have been going through PERTHSHIRE heads as they led 11-8 against Haddington at Neilson Park, but it was not to be and they travelled home still having to open their BT National 3 account.

Haddington rattled in 31 secondhalf points to take the spoils by 39-19, thanks mainly to a Kyle Adams hat-trick and 15 points from the boot of Gareth Pritchard rendering the efforts of try scorers Ryan Miller and Dan Rae and the kicks from Dom O’Conner and Jonny Armitt in vain.
