Fox bemoans failure to create chances

Cowdenbeath plummeted into second-bottom spot in Ladbrokes League 2 with an insipid performance against managerless Albion.

The Blues made an awful start to the game and never really recovered – and the longer things went, the worse the quality of their play.

In six minutes the home defence were caught square and Isaac Layne was able to run clean through and slot the ball past Dave McGurn.

The Cowdenbeath captain had to make a couple of good saves from former Cowden winger Marc McKenzie to keep the deficit at one.

Then, 18 minutes into the second period, Darren Smith slotted in number two after the Cowden rearguard found themselves in more trouble by not picking up men in their box.

Fraser Mullen tested Albion keeper Chris Smith with two freekicks and Lewis Moore brought out a good save him from a close-in shot, but that was all the home side could muster.

Cowdenbeath boss Liam Fox was unhappy at his side’s showing.

“Yes, we huffed and puffed at times, especially in the second period, but at no stage did we look capable of taking the game by the scruff of the neck,” he said.

“We had played much better at Arboath but we left that form at Gayfield, for we at no stage produced the same sort of creativity and good chances were few.”

He said he could accept mistakes like the sort which cost the first goal, but not the way the team failed to battle back into the game.
