Muskies feel the pain as Reign move up to fourth

-

Dunfermline Reign beat arch rivals Tayside Musketeers 95-56 to climb into fourth place in the Scottish League.

Helped by a combined 30-point contribution from Perth twins Mike and Andrew Travers, Reign led 21-14 after the first quarter and 44-26 at half-time.

Ahead 64-44 after the third quarter, the Fife side scored another 31 points in the final 10 minutes.

“They caused us a lot of problems with their speed in transition and outside shooting,” said Muskies coach Paul Boath.

Muskies were not helped by call-offs and had only six players available on Saturday.

Reign scoring was well spread with Mike Travers and Jake Sirrell both bagging 18 points, Ewan Pennie adding 17, Craig Ferguson 14 and Andrew Travers 12.

“We were a bit outsized to begin with,” said Reign captain Kieran Lynch.

“But we kept pushing the ball and shooting and I thought we did that very well.

“As the game went on our defensive intensity increased and we scored a lot of easy baskets.”

With Edinburgh Kings losing 69-60 away to St Mirren, league leaders Falkirk Fury, who beat Glasgow University 59-40, are now the only unbeaten team.

Scotland’s first women’s professional team, Caledonia Pride, including former Tayside Musketeer Hannah Robb, are still seeking their first win after going down away to Notts Wildcats 91-52 and Sheffield Hatters 88-43.
