McKinnon says Fraser still a ‘work in progress’

Young midfielder attracting attention from clubs south of the border

Dundee United’s Scott Fraser may have a magical left foot, but he remains a work in progress.

That is the opinion of the Tangerines manager Ray McKinnon, someone who knows exactly what it feels like to be a precocious midfielder at Tannadice having been there and done it during his playing days.

Fraser’s form for United in the first third of the Championship season has apparently been noticed by sides Wigan, Charlton and Peterborough.

That should not come as a surprise to anyone who has seen him glide past opposition players as if they weren’t there.

Unsurprisingly, McKinnon is a big fan of the 21-year-old and paid him a massive compliment ahead of tomorrow’s crucial league clash against Morton at Cappielow.

He also feels, however, that there is still scope for Fraser to get even better.

McKinnon said: “I’m telling you now, Scott has as much ability in that left foot as I’ve seen in any football player.

“I watch him train every day and the kid’s left foot is unbelievable.

“What we need to do with him now is add to his game.

“By that I mean add goals and increase the number of chances he creates.

“Having the great control that Scott has counts for nothing if you can’t add the other things to it.

“There is a lot of talent in Scotland, plenty of good young players.

“We must remember, though, that people mature at different ages.

“We just need to make sure we get the best out of them and really work with them.

“When we came into United we looked at Scott and thought we had to get more out of him and that’s what we intend to do.”
