Selection headache

Dick Campbell has two possible teams in mind for today’s clash with Stirling Albion.

One is the side that kicked off the game against Montrose last weekend, and the other is the is the one that kicked off after the re-start.

Arbroath turned a one-goal deficit at half-time into a 3-1 victory, with Bryan Prunty and Ryan McCord making a big impact off the bench.

And Campbell admitted that he has got plenty of food for thought as he ponders his team selection for the visit of relegation-threatened Stirling.

“I’ve got a full squad to choose from,” said Campbell.

“Saturday’s conditions must have been the worst I’ve seen in all my years in football. The rain was driving into you and it was a day to dig out a result, which we did.

“You have to be happy getting a win in circumstances like that. I changed things at half-time and I thought we were outstanding in the second half.

“I now have to decide whether I go with the team that started the first half or the team that started the second. I haven’t made my mind up yet.”

Campbell and Stirling’s rookie manager Dave Mackay go back a long way, with the veteran boss giving a young Mackay his first team break at Brechin City on loan from Dundee.

“I can remember Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone telling me they had this 17-year-old who could go right to the top,” he recalled.

“David was magnificent for me for a year-and-a-half. He’s made changes at Stirling and will have his own ideas about what he wants to do going forward.

“Hopefully there’s no repeat of his first game when we were 2-0 up after 93 minutes and they got a 2-2 draw!”
