Planners extend deadline for comments on chalet plan
The deadline for comments on plans to increase the size of the Tummel Valley Holiday Park has been extended until March 7.
Perth and Kinross Council has extended the consultation as it seeks a flood risk report and information on the impact the proposals will have on trees.
Parkdean Holiday Parks wants to create 14 new static caravan chalet units at the popular site in an effort to boost the site.
The park and its facilities are well recognised for the significant contribution they make to the area but neighbours worry the proposals could exacerbate localised problems with flooding.
Snowmelt and heavy rainfall cause annual issues for householders who live in close proximity to the River Tummel.
For many, a man-made pond within the grounds of the holiday park has operated as a “safety valve”, holding some of the excess water.
It has been reduced in size over the years, however, and Parkdean’s plan could see its size reduce further.
The operator hopes the new chalets will help them move to year-round tourism, boosting the value of the recently acquired site.
One local resident said: “The closing date for public comments about the plan to build 14 chalets has been extended because planning officials want more information about flooding and trees.
“Many residents are seriously concerned by the impact this plan and the location chosen for the chalets could have upon flooding issues.
“Others are concerned that the continued growth of the holiday park will see their homes surrounded.”
