The father of RAF gunner Corrie McKeague believes “several” people are perverting the course of justice in relation to his son’s disappearance.

Following the arrest of a 26-year-old man yesterday Martin McKeague said in “his opinion” more than one person was breaking the law.

Taking to his Facebook page, Martin said: “There are a number of lines of inquiry that the police are pursuing just now so we’ll just wait and see what we find out about this one.”

Officers from Suffolk Constabulary confirmed they had released a man on bail after detaining him on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

They stressed it was not the driver of a bin lorry seen near where RAF gunner Corrie, originally from Dunfermline, was last seen before going missing on a night out in Bury St Edmonds more than five months ago.

Nicola Urquhart took to the Facebook page dedicated to finding her missing son to write: “This male is not the bin lorry driver and nor is it a family member.

“Whilst (we) are trying to remain calm and not read too much into this latest development, it is incredibly difficult not to hope it could be a significant development.”

Suffolk Police also moved to quash speculation a knife found in the town was anything to do with the investigation.

A spokesman said: “The area where the knife was found was searched during the initial stages of the inquiry and no knife was located at that time, it cannot be said when this knife was left in the area or by whom and there is no link between this and Corrie at this time.”

The developments comes as police prepare to begin a search of a nearby landfill site for any trace of Corrie’s whereabouts.

A large volume of bulk material will need to be removed and access routes built to allow the search to get under way.

Mr McKeague vanished during a night out with friends in Bury St Edmunds on September 24.

It is thought the gunner had been trying to walk back to his base at RAF Honington, almost 10 miles away, when he disappeared.

He was caught on CCTV in the early hours of the morning walking into a horseshoe-shaped loading area but was not seen coming back out.

His girlfriend, April Oliver, has since revealed that she is expecting his baby, finding out just weeks after the 23-yearold went missing.
