Mystery surrounds police operation

- Stefan Morkis

Police in Dundee launched a major investigation on a quiet Broughty Ferry street yesterday.

Residents of Castleroy Road woke up to see part of the pavement outside a home had been taped off and a police car parked in front of the house.

A small silver tent used to cover evidence had been erected within the cordon.

Residents said police arrived on the scene around 2am.

They remained on site until around noon, when they said they had found no evidence a crime had been committed but did not issue any further details.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said they had not been required to attend the incident.

The occupants of the house affected said police had not revealed what they were investigating.

Broughty Ferry Labour councillor Laurie Bidwell said: “This sounds like a really alarming thing to happen – to wake up or return home and discover it has been taped off.”

One neighbour said: “I’ve no idea what’s going on but they’ve been there from at least 7am when I took the dogs out.”

Another neighbour said there had been no loud noises or the sound of sirens overnight.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “Police Scotland carried out inquiries into an incident in Castleroy Road, Dundee and it has been established that no crime has been committed.”
