Cowdenbeath have begun the search for a new manager after parting company with Liam Fox last night following a run of seven straight defeats..
cowdenbeath: Manager resigns in the wake of SPFL’s bottom club losing last seven matches
Liam Fox has resigned as manager of the SPFL’s bottom club, Cowdenbeath.
The Fife side have lost their last seven matches – the last of which was to Stirling Albion on Saturday – and are cut adrift at the foot of League Two by seven points.
Rookie boss Fox, who was previously a youth coach at Hearts and was expected to return to Tynecastle, leaves Central Park with relegation out of the Football League a real possibility.
It will take a huge change in momentum for a new manager to turn their season around and avoid the playoffs with a non-league outfit.
Cowdenbeath are now inviting applications for the vacant post.
A club statement released last night read: “At tonight’s board meeting at Central Park the directors of Cowdenbeath FC accepted the resignation of head coach Liam Fox. He now leaves his role at the club by mutual consent.
“The club regrets that despite Liam’s great efforts and true professionalism he was not able to bring the success we all wished for.
“He did face a number of challenges this season, some of which few managers would normally expect to encounter, especially in their first season in management.
“He leaves Central Park with the respect and best wishes of the chairman and all the directors of the club.”
Fox said: “Firstly, I’d like to thank Cowdenbeath for giving me the opportunity to manage their football club.
“The experience gained and lessons learned in a short period of time will no doubt prove invaluable to me in my career.
“I’d like to thank the players and backroom staff for their hard work, commitment and all the backing that they’ve given me during my time at the club.
“Finally, I’d like to thank Donald Findlay for all the support and help afforded to me whilst I was in charge at Central Park.
“I wish everyone at Cowdenbeath Football Club every success in the future.”
