Ford slashes £1,000 off cost of Fiesta with new entry model
The new Ford Fiesta will cost £1,000 less than the current model when it goes on sale in the UK in the spring from £12,715.
Ford is bringing back a base-model Style trim – a car that was deleted from the last generation line-up – slashing the entry model price of the UK’s bestselling car, which currently costs from £13,795.
At the other end of the scale, Ford will introduce a posh Vignale model to its Fiesta line-up for the first time – a model that will cost more than a Focus.
In pricing details, released ahead of the Fiesta’s official debut at the Geneva motor show on Tuesday, the firm revealed the top-of-the-range Vignale will weigh in at £20,575 for a 1.5-litre TDCI. A Ford Focus with 1.0-litre Eco Boost engine costs £19,495.
The Vignale has 17-inch alloys, unique exterior body styling and front grille, leather interior, heated seats and steering wheel, panoramic roof and rearview camera as standard.
The Fiesta will come in nine different trim levels, three of which are new. These are Style, Zetec, B&O Play Zetec Series, Titanium, B&O Play Titanium Series, Titanium X, ST Line, ST Line X and the Vignale.
Meanwhile, motorists are paying more than £10 extra for a tank of fuel than they were at this time last year, according to new figures.
At the end of February, unleaded petrol cost an average of 120.23p a litre, an increase of 18.6p on the price a year ago of 101.65p.
The price of a typical litre of diesel stood at 122.25p, while a year ago it was 101.31p, almost 21p less.
There was some good news for hard-pressed drivers during February, however, with the stats revealing that fuel prices were at least stable during the month.
It now costs £66.13 to fill an average petrol-powered family car, as opposed to £55.91 a year ago. For diesel drivers it will cost £67.24 to fill their tank, compared to £55.72 at the start of March last year. All figures assume a car has a 55-litre fuel tank.
