- Mark johnson

Broughty Athletic put poor league form behind them as they stormed past Hermes and into the semi-finals of the GA Engineering Cup.

Ross McCord stabbed the ball home from close range after four minutes.

The home side’s second came on 20 minutes when Grant Lawson netted a parried Ryan Suttie header.

Shaka Roy scored his first goal for the club when Kevin Buchan headed the ball into his path after 50 minutes.

The Aberdeen visitors were reduced to 10 men two minutes later, but pulled a goal back from a penalty on 57 minutes.

Broughty’s Kevin Buchan scored on the hour, and four minutes from time.

Dundee Violet and East Craigie served up a cracking derby at Glenesk.

With the score at 3-3, the Premier league’s bottom club found something extra. Nik Mann with two and Liam McCartney scored the East Craigie goals, with the first three Violet goals coming from Chris Tawse, Ben Middleton and a Ryan Dignan penalty.

Dale Hart put Violet 4-3 in front before Craig Batchelor hit the fifth.

Kirriemuir Thistle strolled into the semis with a 3-0 win over Lochee Harp at West View.

Darren Scott scored in both halves, and Bryan Duell also scored a secondhalf goal.

Tayport are also through to the semifinals following a 2-0 win over Super League outfit Carnoustie Panmure at the Canniepairt.

Dale Reid put the Premier side ahead four minutes into the second half.

Carnoustie huffed and puffed without threatening, and it was no surprise when Alan Tulleth made sure of the victory, slotting home with six minutes to go.

The draw for the semi-finals was made at Whitton Park and sees Kirriemuir Thistle host Tayport, and Broughty Athletic face a trip to Dundee Violet.

The dates are yet to be announced.
