Edjenguele believes in ‘good group of players’
William Edjenguele would send himself to Coventry if he didn’t believe Dundee United still had a chance of the title.
The central defender and his Tannadice team-mates lost 1-0 to Championship leaders Hibs on Friday to fall 10 points behind Neil Lennon’s men.
They will close that gap to seven if they can win their game in hand against St Mirren in Paisley on Wednesday, but it looks like a lost cause as far as unfurling the flag is concerned.
However, Edjenguele, whose family home is in the Midlands town, is not giving up just yet.
The Frenchman said: “After the defeat to Hibs at Easter Road I was asked if we are going into the play-offs now, and I said let’s wait and see. I am in the same position now . . .
“Let’s see what Hibs do when they play Falkirk and Morton”
He added: “There are 10 matches left for us and we have to win most if not every one of them. I still believe we can do it.
“We went on a run of 14 games unbeaten earlier in the season and we can do that again.
“If I didn’t believe that then I would be as well just packing my bag and heading home to Paris or Coventry.
“But I do believe it because this is a good group of players.”
Of Friday’s loss, in which Lewis Toshney was sent off after 31 minutes, Edjenguele said: “It was a disappointing night because I felt that in the first 20 minutes we were well in the game, although we didn’t create enough chances.
“But the commitment was there and we were right in there.
“It becomes a bit difficult when you have a man sent off.
“Lewis has apologised to the rest of the team. When you challenge like that a few times the referee doesn’t have a choice.
“Was he too pumped up? Maybe, but you want that.
“When you are on a booking you have to be smarter but we are not blaming him. I was on a booking, too, and sometimes you have to stop yourself doing things in a match.”
