Ravanelli keen on return to Scottish football

-

Former Juventus and Italy striker Fabrizio Ravanelli wants to succeed Mark McGhee as Motherwell’s manager – and he’s taking English lessons to boost his chances.

The 48-year-old, who won the Champions League with Juventus in 1996, has applied for the vacancy at Fir Park.

“I would love it,” he claimed, revealing that he’s pulling out all the stops so that the language barrier won’t stand in his way.

“Every morning I study English as it is important the players understand me,” he said.

Ravanelli’s playing career lasted for 20 years and took in Lazio and Marseille as well as playing in England for Middlesbrough and Derby County.

He also made six appearances for Dundee (scoring a hat-trick in a League Cup tie against Clyde).

After a spell out of the game he coached Juventus’ youth team for two years before being appointed the coach of French Ligue 1 club AC Ajaccio in the summer of 2013.

He lasted just four months there before being sacked but put that down to the fact that the squad he inherited weren’t up to the job.

“It wasn’t a bad experience in France because when I arrived the team was very poor and we didn’t have many quality players,” he explained.

Since then he’s been a TV pundit for Sky Italia and Fox Sports while also spending time with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte at the club’s training ground at Cobham.
