Grove and MJV Wanderers put in two excellent shifts to emerge unbeaten in the latest round of weekend double headers, writes our women’s hockey correspond­ent.

Grove opened up a two-point window over defending champions Edinburgh University and have a game in hand.

Championsh­ip A proved fruitless for Kinross and Grove A.

Perthshire and Dundee University II fared no better in Championsh­ip B.

Meanwhile, the destinatio­n of the silverware in both Midland League divisions is still in the balance after a weekend of draws.

Madras FPs held on to their narrow lead in Division 1 after a tense draw with Wanderers II.

The St Andrews team, who lost Katrina MacFarlane as a result of a facial injury within five minutes of the start, dug in to maintain their single-point advantage over Perthshire II.

The latter kept the pressure on with a 5-0 win at Blairgowri­e.

Wanderers are a further two points off the pace with a game to go.

Brechin Thistles were held to a 1-1 draw by Monarch.

Madras FP face Dundee University III on Thursday.

In Division 2, Grove III against Kinross II ended goalless.

St Andrews IV lead the field but, with the students’ programme completed, Kinross take over the mantle of favourites going into next week’s final encounter against Perthshire III.

The latter sprang the surprise of the weekend with a 9-0 victory over Dundee University IV, with the principal scorer being Strath student Darcy McDermott.

Dollar Academy won the S3 Girls’ Cup with a narrow victory over Mary Erskine’s.

However, Morrison’s Academy were hit with a goal spree in the Plate final.
