Rare chance to see rock legend

An acclaimed blues guitarist who has shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen will be jetting into Scotland for an intimate Kinross-shire gig.

Garland Jeffreys, an inductee on the 2016 Long Island Music Hall of Fame, began his illustrious career in 1960s New York.

Next month, he will appear at Backstage at the Green Hotel in Kinross. It is the 73-year-old’s only Scottish date on his current UK tour.

Jeffreys is getting ready to release his third album in six years. The LP, 14 Steps to Harlem, will feature, amongst others, electronic pioneer Laurie Anderson.

The new record, which was recorded in Brooklyn, also includes a duet with Jeffreys’ daughter Savannah.

Among the acts the musician has recorded and performed with are U2, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and John Cale.

His hit Wild In the Streets recently featured in Netflix series The Get Down, produced by Baz Luhrmann.

A documentary is being made about Jeffreys’ long-spanning career.

He recently told USA Today: “I think I have done some good work.

“I stand for humanity. I’m interested in what is truly right. That’s what I have to say.”

Jeffreys, who has performed at prestigious international festivals including Montreux Jazz and Fuji Rock in Japan, will play the Backstage venue at Kinross on Thursday, April 6.
