Perfect Scots reach finals

Scotland qualified for the European Under-17 Championship finals for a fourth successive time after beating Switzerland at St Mirren Park yesterday.

A first half penalty from Glenn Middleton was enough to complete a hat-trick of elite round victories and seal a place at the 16-team finals in Croatia.

Scot Gemmill’s side qualified with a 100% record having claimed maximum points in both the qualifying round and the elite round, scoring 16 goals and conceding only one.

Gemmill said: “I’m thrilled for them but it is no more than they deserve because they have worked hard for what they have achieved.”
