Passing of a true hero

By any measure, Carnoustie’s Andy Coogan was a remarkable man.

A talented runner, his potential to be a top class athlete was cruelly interrupted by the war — during which he suffered almost unimaginable trauma.

Nevertheless, Mr Coogan came back stronger and proved to be an irresistible inspiration for his nephew, multiple Olympic medal winner Sir Chris Hoy.

He will not be forgotten.
