Hill should secure double

It is nearing decision time for the top four places in Division 1 to proceed to the play-offs, but in reality Kelburne, Grange and Grove Menzieshill will fill three of these positions, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Tomorrow’s opponents for Menzieshill, Hillhead, have some work to do to avoid a relegation play-off but that should not trouble Menzieshill as home advantage should see them take another three points.

Menzieshill will make it a double on Sunday when Clydesdale are at DISC.

Inverleith and Dundee Wanderers are almost certain to be one and two in Division 2 with the Edinburgh team likely to remain in pole position as they face Greenock. All that Wanderers can do is keep winning – not so easy away to fourthplaced Granite City Wanderers.

Harris could do with a few more points to keep well clear of Greenock but that will be difficult against Falkirk.

Perthshire are still well placed in division 3, one point ahead of Strathclyde University with three games remaining. The Perth team are away to Aberdeen University tomorrow.

The Midland League title still lies between two Wanderers teams with St Andrews University II not out of contention.

Wanderers III may have a difficult match against Perthshire II but Wanderers II should find it easy against Harris II.

Perthshire III are well placed in division 2 but there are no games on Sunday due to the Midland development session.

Scotland finished third in Round 2 of the World League in Belfast last weekend, missing out on automatic entry into the semi-finals. But all is not lost as the two highest ranked of the third-placed finishers in the three Round 2 events qualify.

Egypt, whose world ranking is better than Scotland’s 27, have qualified in Dhaka but the Scots will still qualify if the third place finisher in Trinidad and Tobago is ranked lower. Fixtures
