Clark undaunted by Morton’s record

-

Nicky Clark knows there would be no better way to ease Dunfermline’s relegation worries than to end Morton’s remarkable home record.

The Pars could have dragged themselves out of trouble with a win against Ayr United last weekend, but lost 1-0 to be pulled back to within five points of bottom side St Mirren.

They now face a trip to Cappielow to face a Morton team unbeaten on their own patch for 12 months.

But Clark reckons this afternoon would be the perfect time to bring that run to an end.

The former Rangers striker said: “Morton have got a lot of great results and they are a good team, there’s no getting away from that.

“I watched the second-half of their game against Falkirk last week and they looked really good. Falkirk’s a hard place to go and get a win and they did that.

“So, we know what we’re up against, we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we just need to make sure we’re prepared for it because we need the three points.

“We said last week that if we won that was probably us away from the bottom and we could look to catch Queen of the South and Dundee United.

“But the league doesn’t lie. We’re only five points off the bottom of the league now.

“So, we need to now concentrate on the teams below us and make sure that we pick up as many points as possible between now and the end of the season.

“Morton are going well and they’re unbeaten in a year at Cappielow.

“But they’re due to get beat at some point, so why not us?”

The corresponding fixture back in September ended with a 2-1 win for Morton, but Clark scored on that occasion and is optimistic of adding to his 13 goals so far this season.

The 25-year-old, son of Pars number two Sandy Clark, netted four in the 5-1 win over Dumbarton earlier this month but knows any goals in Greenock could prove crucial.

He added: “My first goal for the club was down there, so hopefully I can get another one down there.”
