COBRA MOBILE: Immediate focus for games developer is new games and updates
Dundee-based Cobra Mobile is an international game developer and publisher that makes 80% of its sales abroad.
Its chief executive is Mark Ettle, who graduated with a BSc in computer science from Abertay University in 1993.
His career path then took him to DMA Design, Visual Sciences and Simian Industries before he set up and co-founded Cobra in 2005.
Mark said Cobra has created a range of successful games and is best known for its iBomber and Let’s Go game series.
The firm develops games for mobile, tablet, console, PC, Mac, Linux and smart TV, and Mark said his team are positioned to react quickly to any new platforms in the marketplace.
“Cobra has invested heavily in the development of its own bespoke game development tools and underlying technologies, which allow it to support the widest range of platforms,” he added.
He said online digital stores and global servers allow Cobra to export its products directly into the hands of users.
When asked where he planned Cobra to be in five years, he said: “Five years is a very long time in technology and games.
“The mobile and games sectors move quickly.
“We are focused on our roadmap for 2017, which is new games and updates.
“We’re also working more with message-based gaming.
“As always, next year and beyond depends on current and historical performance mixed in with market opportunities as they appear.”
He continued: “Our biggest opportunity is staying on top of the market.
“We have worked out solutions for the major problems that everyone experiences in a digital marketplace.”
He concluded: “The biggest challenge going forward is two-fold – making great games that people want to play, and how do we reach an ever-bigger audience in a very noisy multibillion-dollar market?”
