Kingennie goes from winter into spring

-

It’s been a real week of change at KINGENNIE with a freezing cold wind giving way to a flat calm and bright sunshine at the weekend.

With longer nights and temperatures rising, there have been a lot more fish on the surface with dry flies coming into their own.

A stealthy approach is needed on the Boathouse as the water is gin clear.

Smaller flies, such as buzzers and nymphs, have done well but dry flies have been best.

Mr Leslie had a great day landing 17 fish on small, black dry flies with the biggest a blue around 5lb.

Mr Kirk did very well fishing the washing line with two small buzzers and a fab landing 16 fish. Mr Lafferty had a good day landing four for 16lb with the biggest weighing 8lb 12oz.

The Burnside is clearing well and small flies are getting better returns.

Mr Milne did well landing nine in quick succession on a hares ear suspender while Mr Barlow had 14 on buzzers on a midge tip with the biggest around 8lb.

Mr Kydd did well on one of the windy days landing six fish up to 11lb on white lures.

A good mix of methods have done well at the Bankside but Mr Sherriff had the best result with 14 fish on buzzers and damsels.

Mr Gordon had 10, with the biggest around 10lb, and Mr McIntosh had six with the best around 12lb.

The Woodside has been busy. All the usual methods have worked but the spinner and green power bait have been best. Mr Wallace had two for 4lb 6oz and Mr Souter and his son had four fish for 7lb 12oz.

Despite two days being lost to high winds, MONIKIE fished well last week with 57 anglers taking over 250 fish.

Fast Glass or Di3 lines are still proving to be the most successful, with black & green lures, nomads, humungus, orange blobs and hothead damsels being the top flies.

Later in the week, with warmer weather and lighter winds, floaters and midge tips with diawl bachs, cormorants and also worked when fish have been seen rising to large hatches of buzzers.

The bailiff boat kept four fish and returned over a dozen using floater and midge tip lines, fishing PT buzzer with a red rib, cormorant and traffic light buzzer.

Not many fish were rising to the hatched insects but rather they appeared to be taking the buzzer as it rose to the surface.

Notable returns include P Moir and M Smith, on the Island, taking 10 fish for 17lb 5oz; G Stewart and Mrs Stewart, on the North, 10 for 20lb; G Anderson and H Gibb on the North taking 10 fish for 19lb; A Robertson and V Webster, on the Island, 10 for 20lb 6oz plus six returned.

There are still some good catches coming from FRANDY.

On the individual front Messrs Pozzi and Page (Glenrothes) had five fish for 10lb 4oz; Mark Sturrock (Cairneyhill) and Stuart Strachan (Kilmarnock), three for 6lb 12oz; Jim Donnelly (Tullibody), two, 4lb 4oz, released three; Bobby Paterson (St Ninians) caught and released four.

The Bridge of Allan 76 AC kept 14 fish for 30lb.

The best fishing area continues to be from the start of the Dogleg to the Dam Wall on the south shore.
