Lucy goes Globe-trotting
A Perthshire actress is to tread the boards at one of the world’s most famous theatres.
Auchterarder-born Lucy Menzies is taking her place among the UK’s most promising young actors this weekend to perform at Shakespeare’s Globe in London as part of the annual Sam Wanamaker Festival.
Lucy, 22, was selected as one of 44 up-and-coming young actors who will be taking to the world famous stage on Sunday.
Now in its 12th year, the festival brings together leading drama schools from across the country for a weekend of workshops led by the Globe’s resident specialists, culminating in a public performance of scenes by Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Previous festival performers who went on to receive worldwide recognition include Andrew Garfield, best known for Hollywood blockbusters such as the Amazing Spiderman and the Social Network, and Michelle Dockery, of Downton Abbey fame.
Other participants have since joined major West End shows such as the Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time.
Lucy, now studying at Drama Centre London, will be performing as Cressida in a scene from Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida.
She said: “I’ve been captivated by acting since I was in primary school and am thrilled to be appearing at the Sam Wanamaker Festival.”
