-

A painting of Sir Andy Murray in action could net up to £18,000 at auction in Glasgow this weekend.

The artwork captures Murray stretching for a ball during the 2013 final against Novak Djokovic.

Painted by British impressionist Sherree Valentine Daines, the 22x32cm oil on board will go under the hammer at McTear’s Scottish Contemporary Art Auction on Sunday.

Experts have valued the work at £12,000£18,000.

Brian Clements, managing director at McTear’s, said: “It is a stunning impressionistic piece that captures perfectly the effort and emotion of that momentous summer afternoon in London in 2013.”

Murray became the first British player to win a Wimbledon senior singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977, and the first British man to win the men’s singles title since Fred Perry, 77 years previously.

Valentine Daines has exhibited at the Tate Gallery, Barbican, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

Among her many celebrity works was a commission to create a painting for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.

The critically acclaimed work was presented to the Queen at a private reception at Windsor Castle.

Other stars who have sat for her include Joanna Lumley, John Sessions and Sir Michael Parkinson.
