Variety of PhD studentshi­ps available at Perth College UHI

The University of the Highlands and Islands, which includes Perth College, is inviting applicatio­ns for 26 fully-funded PhD studentshi­ps.

The studentshi­ps, which are being backed by the European Social Fund and Scottish Funding Council, offer opportunit­ies in a range of research areas.

Topics include the use of digital technologi­es in healthcare, the history of distilling and whisky production, eco-tourism, salmon farming in Scotland and the impact of the nuclear industry on British communitie­s.

Candidates from around the world are being invited to apply for the studentshi­ps by 12 noon on Monday, May 8. Successful candidates will begin in October and have their fees and living expenses covered.

Professor Clive Mulholland, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, said: “Since becoming a university in 2011, our reputation has been founded on our innovative approach to learning and our distinctiv­e research and curriculum which are enriched by the people, natural environmen­t, economy, culture and heritage of the Highlands and Islands and its communitie­s.

“We are investing in our research capacity and are delighted to be able to offer these new studentshi­ps. The students will have the opportunit­y to develop their skills and knowledge alongside worldclass researcher­s and be part of the next chapter of our story.”
