Locke hopeful of keeping pressure on teams above

Cowdenbeath head to Forthbank today to face a Stirling Albion side who still have one eye on promotion play-offs.

The Blue Brazil are looking to put a dent in the home side’s plans, while more importantly getting a win that would boost their hopes of avoiding finishing at the foot of senior football.

Central Park manager Gary Locke said: “Stirling were on a fantastic winning run until they met Forfar at home a couple of weeks ago, but they bounced back well by winning at Berwick last weekend. “They have a good mix in their team. “However, it is what we do that is more important. We need the three points to keep the pressure on the teams above us and we could do with a couple of goals as our poor goal difference is worth a point to the other teams at the bottom.”

Locke wants his side to show a ruthless streak missing in the 1-1 draw at Edinburgh City last weekend.

He said: “I was left with mixed emotions at the final whistle.

“We missed three great chances in the first half and also missed our fifth penalty in a row. We were the better team but it looked like we would be losing to a freak goal when Jamie misjudged the flight of a free-kick and the ball went in at the back post.

“However, the players showed a lot of character and kept on going to get us a point.

“We are in a much better place than we were last month and can still get out of it, which is a lot brighter looking than it has been.”

Scott Rumsby is back after a ban and Gerry McLauchlan should return after illness. Brian Ross is a doubt, while Kenny Adamson and Matthew Rooney are still out.
