Beef farmers from around the world are expected to attend a flagship conference on the industry’s latest technical advances in Edinburgh in June.

An array of experts gathering for the Aberdeen-Angus world forum conference will address sessions on topics ranging from the food industry and what the retailers want, to how data, genetics and genomics can help improve the consumer’s experience and how Aberdeen-Angus cattle can be beneficial to both human health and the environment.

Beef farmers will learn how to be more efficient and closer to the market while still producing the finest meat.

The world Angus forum, hosted by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society in the UK, is being billed as the ‘return home’ of the breed. It will feature 50 events over a 16-day period in June and July, and aims to showcase the breed throughout the length and breadth of the UK.

The two-day technical conference: From Consumption to Conception, takes place in the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh on June 25-26.

World Angus Forum committee member James Playfair-Hannay described Aberdeen-Angus as more than a breed society “It’s a global brand,” he said. “We want to run a technical conference that will be of great value and really delve deep into the question around whether the beef industry is fit for purpose to face the future.

“The technical conference is not just relevant to Aberdeen-Angus, but to the whole beef industry.

“We have a great mix of speakers, from technical experts to practical farmers who are using the technology, so we can get a real insight into every level of the production process.”

Speakers include Nathan Ward of Kantar World Panel, Professor Julie Fitzpatrick of the Moredun Research Institute and Dr Alex Johnston of the Rowett Research Institute.
