New town incident not alone
The incident in Glenrothes is just the latest escape by a nursery pupil to have taken place in Scotland.
Dundee City Council was forced to apologise just last month after a pre-school youngster was found alone in the street after leaving the building without a parent during collection time.
The episode happened at the Jessie Porter Nursery on Harestane Road.
Witnesses and councillors branded the sight of the “confused” child standing alone next to a busy road as “disturbing” and “unacceptable”.
However, sometimes it is the rest of the class that leaves somebody behind, which is what happened to a five-yearold pupil at Dunfermline’s Pitcorthie Primary School in 2015.
The youngster was left behind following a class outing to Blair Drummond Safari Park.
He was later discovered safe and well by police and was reunited with his family.
