Not just for ironing

-

“I was amused at the recent item about growing old,” says Reg Mulheron of Tayport. “When I was a younger man, I remember my father was always falling asleep in his chair. When I mentioned it to him, he said that I would be like that too one day.

“The time is now! I find myself falling asleep quite a lot these days. It was annoying to me back then because I felt that it was wasting hours in the day.

“I like to read The Courier every day, front page to last page and I was finding that it was taking me longer and longer because I kept falling asleep – just like my father.

“However, I have come up with a solution. I put up my late wife’s ironing board and spread the newspaper out on it. As I have to stand up to read the pages, I don’t get the chance to nod off at all and I find I get through the paper much quicker.

“I am now also using the ironing board to lean on while I write letters and it has become part of the furniture in the living-room.”
