Anna adds Fife County title to haul of trophies

13-year-old wins on final green

Crail youngster Anna McKay is building an impressive golfing CV after winning the Fife County Women’s Championship at the age of just 13

Two years ago, the ClubGolf graduate became one of the youngest winners of a ladies event after a stunning victory at Crail Golfing Society’s Ladies Championship.

Anna, who impressed Ryder Cup player and major winner Graeme McDowell in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open Pro-Am in 2015, entered the history books at the Fife links following their finals day.

That achievement saw her follow in the footsteps of two-time Ladies European Tour winner, Perthshire’s Carly Booth, who became the youngest ladies’ club champion in Britain at 11-years-old at Dunblane New.

Now Anna can celebrate another success after she lifted the Fife Women’s County title at the weekend, to become one of the youngest winners of the event.

In windy conditions at the Jubilee Course, St Andrews, on Sunday, Anna beat Lorna McKinlay (Dunnikier) by one hole in an enthralling final.

Since 2015, she has reduced her handicap from 10 to +2 under the guidance of Scottish Golf regional performance coach Ian Muir, who has been coaching her since the age of five.

Anna started her journey with ClubGolf, the national junior programme, at the age of four, alongside her older brother Ben at Elie and her continued success is testament to Crail’s dedication to junior development, open access to adult competitions and her coaching.

In 2015, McKay was one of three youngsters invited by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to play in the Scottish Government team in the pro-am before the European Tour event at Gullane.
